Question 1969 Mach 1 hood paint

Can anyone tell me what the paint should be for the black out hood treatment on a 69 Mach 1?

    Thanks!

Or you could contact the MCA national judge for 69-70 Mustangs, Jim Cunningham

Question Any good pictures of hoods?

Does any one know of good detail shots that show the "texture" of the hood paint on the 69 blackout?

This is my GT, for the hood paint I used the same black as the car (Pearl Black) but added flattening agent.

It was a flat black paint! Not smooth at all very hard to drage a towel or chamois across it.

I bet a microfibre would never make it. Just don't try & wax it!

They sure looked pretty in those days!

Thanks for the pics! Is the correct texture more smooth or more like a 200 grit sand paper? Maybe that is a good example. What "grit" should it be? Thanks again!

Unless you're restoring to concourse, the texture is up to you, the finish in the hood was put in there to cut the glare that would usually hit the driver's eye while driving. There were variations of the 69 hood, some had the flat, some had a brighter finish. If you're looking for a "flat" hood, and your car is black, just flatten the car's color, the texture comes from the flattener and lack of clear coat, in my case, I would guess it feels like a 100 grit, just a guess.
